The exhibition “Sumpul Massacre Memorial: Trails and Voices” will take place from 4 March to 5 April 2026 at the Béguinage Church in Brussels.
You are warmly invited to the opening and the book launch on Thursday 19 March at 6:30 p.m.
The exhibition retraces the creation of the Las Aradas memorial (El Salvador), in homage to the victims of the Sumpul Massacre (13–14 May 1980). It highlights the perseverance of the survivors and the lasting solidarity between Catholic communities in Belgium and El Salvador.
Through artworks, archives, images, and testimonies, the exhibition and the book bring together the voices of survivors, artists, architects, researchers, and members of local communities. The project is the result of a collaboration between Asociación Sumpul, KU Leuven, the Universidad Nacional de El Salvador, Western University, Colectivo Matiz, and AgwA.
The exhibition continues several years of research and exchanges carried out in Belgium and El Salvador. Everyone is welcome. Registration for the book launch: https://www.houseofcompassion.be/inscription/ More information: www.elsalvadormemory.org
On Good Friday, 3 April at 3 p.m., the Way of the Cross will be celebrated at the heart of the exhibition.
