Exchange with Birsen Taşpinar: ‘The pain of racism deep inside’
On February 7, House of Compassion and CIMIX vzw are organising an exchange with Birsen Taşpinar about her new book De pijn diep vanbinnen (The pain deep inside) at Het Anker in Brussels.
What can we personally do, as carevigers, parents or counsellors/instructors, in our society, when it comes to the deep pain that racism causes many people?
What answers do we give to the next generations about how we can deal with injustice and inequality? What exercises should each of us do to increase our sensitivity to the suffering of others?
Under Birsen’s guidance, we do exercises together to raise our collective awareness and transform injustice into care. Birsen Taşpinar is a clinical psychologist, anthropologist, system therapist, lecturer and researcher at Odisee University College. She wrote Moeders van de stilte (Mothers of Silence) in 2013. Her latest book, De pijn diep vanbinnen : ouders na racisme-ervaringen (The pain deep inside: parents after experiences of racism) was published recently.
