Will the 13 Palestinian students and researchers who have received scholarships to study at Belgian universities finally be evacuated from Gaza?
They have scholarships. They have places at universities. They have a future waiting for them in Europe. Yet they remain unable to leave Gaza because of the decision of the Belgian Government.
Today, young Aboud arrived in Brussels. Coming from Gaza, he arrived with a simple but powerful message:
“Like all children, I have the right to learn, to dream, and to build my future, even as a tiny Giant. But behind my story, there are thousands more: young Palestinians who also dream of studying, but who do not have the chance to leave Gaza. Today, I am here to learn, and to connect with those who are still waiting. Because sometimes, neither a visa and a scholarship are enough.”
At 12:15 today, Aboud arrived at Brussels-Central Station, where a warm crowd gathered to welcome him, waving, hugging, offering chocolate and gaufres, and together they walked through the streets of Brussels towards the House of Compassion in place du Beguinage.
There, they came to embrace Sabine, the Giantess of dignity and solidarity, who has continuously stood up for undocumented people, justice, human rights, the right to education, and the possibility of a better life for everyone.
Aboud’s arrival is a moment of joy for a few seconds, also be a wake up call: what about the 13 Palestinian students and researchers who are still waiting and risking their lives in Gaza?
They have scholarships and papers.
They have dreams and diplomas.
They have the right to continue their education, pursue their aspirations, and build their future in safety.
A scholarship is not enough if a student cannot reach the university. A visa is not enough if it cannot be used to leave Gaza and they are still exposed to genocide.
