SUMMARY:Clean clothes
DESCRIPTION:The collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh, in which 1134 textile workers lost their lives, took place ten years ago. While the fashion companies washed their hands of it, the surviving workers shook the world’s population. They testified to the degrading working conditions, exploitation and coercion in the factory. Under pressure from consumers, NGOs and unions, the case eventually led to a major international breakthrough.\nWhat has changed on the ground since then? And where do things continue to go wrong today? What needs to happen for working conditions to change substantially? And how can we, as consumers and organizations in the field, make a difference?\nOn the agenda:\n\nAchact vzw – “Rana Plaza, never again?”\nLaura Eliaerts (ACV) – The Chain Care Act\nOpening of the exhibition Clean Clothes by WSM. With photos by Lieve Blancquaert.\nSolidarity meal at the long table\n\nRegister: www.houseofcompassion.be/inscription\nParticipation is free, a free contribution is always welcome.\nThis event is bilingual (Dutch and French). Simultaneous interpretation is provided.\nPhoto: CC by 2.0\n
